Telecommunications or Transmission Operators Use SOA to Inspect Their Assets

Embracing the latest remote sensing methods has given our team a unique ability to work with utilities companies looking to improve their asset monitoring and inspection process. SOA is used to collecting and filtering through large geospatial datasets to distill usable action plans for legal compliance & industrial safety.

Mapping Lightpoles in New Mexico

Our teams deployed to New Mexico to survey several hundred poles across 60 miles of transmission lines. Survey took 5 days, in which we acquired >5 inspection shots of equipment on each pole. Final output data consisted of 4,500 pictures organized by client-ordered name schema. Client info was transmitted via Dropbox.

Powerline Vegetation Encroachment Study, California

SOA was deployed to the field on behalf of a regional utility district. Our team was engaged to inspect utility-owned powerlines on a 12 mile stretch running through rolling hills. SOA personnel were able to survey this length of line in 2 days using a LiDAR-equipped Unmanned Aircraft System. Substantial point cloud was classified by type of return (tree, line, pole, ground, equipment box, buildings etc.). Algorithm was run to determine points of clash detection and establish maintenance requirements of line section. Client was provided with point and geometry data of interest depicting clash locations and vegetation areas to clear.
