NATURAL RESOURCES

Natural Resource Monitoring and Restoration

SOA has been focused on protecting natural resources since the beginning. In addition to each project we’ve implemented stormwater pollution controls, we have been able to work with other companies, public agencies, and non-profits working on restoration or protection projects.

UAS LiDAR - Pajaro River Channel Mapping

As part of ongoing efforts by Santa Cruz County, Flood Control District, Zone 7, our teams used LiDAR to map several miles of the Pajaro River and Salsipuedes Creek. This was a new approach for the district, which up to this point had focused on echosounders and manual RTK-GPS transects to inform geomorphic changes in their study areas. Our teams finished data collection on the area of interested in 2 weeks, and processed data was sent in another 2 weeks.

Yuba River Aerial Mapping - California

SOA has collaborated with a university team implementing and studying salmonoid spawning habitat and channel stream attribute improvement projects for several years. Our teams filed for and acquired access to restricted airspace in order to visit several times a year and map 30 miles of river at a 3 centimeter resolution. SOA then processes collected visual data into georeferenced orthophotos which are used to track stream channel and water quality variances.

Tidal Pool Monitoring - California

Over the course of several years, our team has assisted in the restoration of an estuary location.
